First instance, the Apple iPhone has remained in the first position of ‘What’s Hot’, exactly where it was this time last week. Despite a gadget and a car both remaining in the Top 3, from the past week clothes have certainly made an impression.

Press Release: Website lets consumers set fashion trends

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Trends come and go so quickly it’s sometimes hard to know what’s hot. But rather than have someone tell you, why not help set the trends?

style spy (http://www.stylespy.net) is the latest and most unique development in social trend-spotting. A simple-to-use and highly visual application, style spy gives you the opportunity to vote on and discuss what’s hot – helping to shape trends – as well as being up to date with what’s in and what’s out.

“style spy is so simple, it’s fun to use and we’re continually working to make it better,” says Allan Barger, 22, one of style spy’s creators.

Unlike social bookmarking, style spy is all about charting what’s hot. Trends quickly emerge as items sink or swim depending on votes from users. Content on style spy ranges from clothing and accessories to cool new gadgets, established brands to upcoming talent.

As well as being a trend bible for consumers, style spy is also a perfect tool for upcoming fashion designers and labels to promote their wares and bring their designs to the attention of a wider audience.

What Impressed Us 7.1.2007

Monday, January 15th, 2007

It’s been a massive week for product releases, particularly in the gadget / accessory field and we asked which gadgets would be considered the most fashionable by style spy’s users. Of course while we looked at the liked of the Nokia N76 the much anticipated release of the Apple iPhone really appealed to fashionistas. Unsurprisingly it topped this weeks most impressive list, if you want to make a product that’s going to generate this much buzz then you’ve got to work out what Apple is doing right and how to apply it to the fashion industry.

  1. Apple iPhone
  2. Lexus LF-A take two
  3. Dolce and Gabanna adverts featuring a deliciously sexy Gemma Ward, sans clothes, which were recently banned. Clearly the majority of the fashion buying public would rather such ads kept on display.
  4. Lux Brushed Ribbed Babydoll
  5. Development Ruffle Sleeve Dress with Pleated Hem

The most popular suggestion to style spy is now the Minidress trend (obviously taking out this weeks most popular trend award). Clearly if your fashion line doesn’t have something to fit in with the mini dress trend you’re losing valuable customers. The most popular individual piece of clothing now goes to the Gorman Ravello mini shorts.
style spy has had 704 fashion items submitted to it, and 3373 votes have been cast.

The fashion side of gadgets

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

There’s a lot to be said for the merging of fashion with gadgets, and the continued success of the iPod both as a music device and a fashion accessory highlights the money that can be made out of something functional and fashionable.

So with CES, a trade-show highlighting new and upcoming products, currently on in the US it comes as no surprise to see many an item being submitted to style spy. These have included;

So far it’s still too early to note any definite trends, but the accessory offerings have outperformed other offerings from the show in the eyes of fashionistas.

  5. Hollister Co China Cove Short Shorts
