What Impressed Us 7.1.2007

Monday, January 15th, 2007

It’s been a massive week for product releases, particularly in the gadget / accessory field and we asked which gadgets would be considered the most fashionable by style spy’s users. Of course while we looked at the liked of the Nokia N76 the much anticipated release of the Apple iPhone really appealed to fashionistas. Unsurprisingly it topped this weeks most impressive list, if you want to make a product that’s going to generate this much buzz then you’ve got to work out what Apple is doing right and how to apply it to the fashion industry.

  1. Apple iPhone
  2. Lexus LF-A take two
  3. Dolce and Gabanna adverts featuring a deliciously sexy Gemma Ward, sans clothes, which were recently banned. Clearly the majority of the fashion buying public would rather such ads kept on display.
  4. Lux Brushed Ribbed Babydoll
  5. Development Ruffle Sleeve Dress with Pleated Hem

The most popular suggestion to style spy is now the Minidress trend (obviously taking out this weeks most popular trend award). Clearly if your fashion line doesn’t have something to fit in with the mini dress trend you’re losing valuable customers. The most popular individual piece of clothing now goes to the Gorman Ravello mini shorts.
style spy has had 704 fashion items submitted to it, and 3373 votes have been cast.

How fashionable is the Apple iPhone

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

Only last night were we blogging about fashionable gadgets and today we wake up the news that Apple have unveiled the much anticipated Apple iPhone.

Unsurprisingly it’s already made its way to style spy, and has shot to the top of the list to become the most popular fashion accessory on the trend spotting site at the moment. We’re keen to see how the iPhone will perform long term, and how it will stack up against the concept imitators but also offerings from competitors, such as the Nokia Aeon concept phone.

The fashion side of gadgets

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

There’s a lot to be said for the merging of fashion with gadgets, and the continued success of the iPod both as a music device and a fashion accessory highlights the money that can be made out of something functional and fashionable.

So with CES, a trade-show highlighting new and upcoming products, currently on in the US it comes as no surprise to see many an item being submitted to style spy. These have included;

So far it’s still too early to note any definite trends, but the accessory offerings have outperformed other offerings from the show in the eyes of fashionistas.

What Impressed Us 31.12.2006

Monday, January 8th, 2007

No sooner had we wrapped up 2006’s fashion trends then we set about determining the trends that will define 2007. It was a busy with for style spy with over 50 different pieces of clothing, accessories, and trends suggested, but the first number one sport of 2007 goes to one of our favourite designers - Sir Paul Smith.

  1. Paul Smith Polka Dot Leather Clutch
  2. Chantal Thomass Bandeau bra
  3. Michael Kors Collegiate Satchel. The satchel spent most of the week in the top spot, only to be replaced by the Paul Smith clutch, yet again proving the staying power of handbags and purses in 2007.
  4. Vera Wang Bubble Hem Dress
  5. Hollister Co China Cove Short Shorts

The most popular item of all time is still the Dena Pezzano Black Bustier with the Minidress trend is still the most popular. Despite their staying power, the hottest trends and fashion of all time have certainly moved around in the past week.

style spy has had 639 fashion items submitted to it, and 2518 votes have been cast.

2006’s Best Fashion

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007

style spy wasn’t around for all of 2006, but that didn’t stop over 500 fashion items and trends being submitted, nor over 2000 votes being cast.

Like our weekly ‘What Impressed Us’ fashion trend analysis feature, it’s worth noting what made an impact on style spy’s users in 2006.

  1. The Dena Pezzano Black Bustier. Suggested in October, the vintage bustier remained the most popular item by the end of 2006 with only positive votes.
  2. The Gorman Ravello Shorts. This one surprised us, we really would have expected short shorts (or shorter shorts) such as Guess’ Millie Micro shorts to garner more attention. But these cuffed, and seemingly pleated shorts won out in the end.
  3. The Minidress Trend was the only trend to make it into the top 5 of 2006 and given it focuses around revealing utterly sexy legs, we’re not surprised.
  4. The Metalicus Arabesque Boy Shorts. Had they not received any negative votes, these lacy boy shorts may have made it to the number one spot.
  5. The Samsung SCH-B600 10 mega pixel camera phone. Probably because Samsung managed to fit so much stuff into this phone, including an optical zoom lense, this camera phone was the only gadget (or even accessory) to make it anywhere near 2006’s top 5. It even managed beat out Nokia’s Aeon concept.
